* Canon is pretty much identical until (wiki copying) Terra, Aqua, and Ventus gather at the Keyblade Graveyard, where the remains of the mysterious Keyblade War are found.

* Master Xehanort appears with Vanitas and reveals his plan to use the Χ-Blade to unlock Kingdom Hearts and unleash the forbidden secrets of the Keyblade War onto the various worlds, as well as to use Terra's body as a new vessel for his own heart so that he may survive long enough to see his plans come to fruition... (point of divergence)

* Aqua heads straight for Master Xehanort, and Terra for Vanitas. Ven is iced.

* Terra is knocked out, despite starting to throw darkness around. Aqua, furious at seeing what happens to Ven, manages to do enough damage to Master Xehanort that he decides to take a gamble on unlocking his heart with only what darkness is in the air and what Vanitas can provide. It's a rougher ride, but he wins.

* Aqua's Sentiment comes into existence and defeats Xehanort.

* Ven wakes up; Van and Ven merge together and create the X-Blade.

* Terra wakes up. He and Mickey fight down Venitas; Terra wrecks the X-Blade. Things get exploded and scattered.

* Mickey manages to retrieve Terra and Ven, taking them to Yen Sid's tower for explanations; Aqua's Sentiment ends up in what was Land of Departure.

* Terra takes Ven to ex-Land of Departure and meets Aqua's Sentiment there; she/it creates Castle Oblivion and he leaves him in her/its care.

* Terra heads for Radiant Garden, and the two scenarios correspond pretty much exactly from that point.
